Using the directory

Anyone can search the directory for free. Listings describe independent businesses; we don't run them and can't guarantee their products, services, prices, hours or availability. Any deal you make with a business is between you and that business. Check important details with the business directly.

Some listings are added by our team from information businesses publish about themselves. Listings marked “Unverified” or “Incomplete listing” are still being checked. Listings marked “Sample” are fictional examples that show how the directory works.

Accounts

• You must be 16 or older to create an account.
• Give accurate details when you register, and keep your password to yourself.
• Your account type (individual, business owner or agent) describes how you use the directory. Agents must have their clients' permission to manage their listings.
• You're responsible for what happens under your account.

Listing a business

• Only list businesses that are owned or co-owned by someone of Jamaican birth or heritage.
• You must own or work for the business, or have permission to list it.
• Start with the essentials; the owner can add hours, photos, prices and more afterward from their account. Keep the details accurate and up to date, and only upload photos and logos you have the right to share.
• Ordering and booking links must lead to a page where customers can actually order or book; your website keeps its own “Visit website” button.
• Every listing is reviewed before it goes live. We may decline, edit for clarity, or remove any listing, for example if it can't be verified, duplicates another listing or breaks these terms.
• Listing is free. We may offer optional paid features in future, but we'll never charge you without your clear agreement.

Claiming a listing

If your business is already listed, you can claim it so you can manage it. Only claim a business you own, co-own or manage, or have permission to manage. We may ask for proof before we approve a claim, and we may remove your access if a claim turns out to be wrong.

Suggesting a business

Anyone can suggest a business they know, without owning it or having permission to list it. Only suggest real businesses you believe are Jamaican-owned, and don't send anyone's private details. We check published sources before adding a suggestion, may decline it, and mark what we add as added by our team until the owner claims it.

Reviews

• Review only businesses you've actually dealt with, and describe your own honest experience.
• Don't review your own business or a competitor's, or a business you're connected to, and don't offer or accept anything in return for a review.
• Keep it respectful: no hateful, threatening or abusive language, nobody else's private details, and nothing untrue about people.
• Business owners can reply publicly to reviews of their business. The same rules apply to replies.
• Reviews are the opinions of the people who write them, not ours. We may hide or remove reviews and replies that break these rules, including ones reported by others.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you add, such as listing details, photos, reviews and replies. You give us permission, free of charge, to show it on the directory and when sharing listings or the directory itself, and to edit it for length, clarity or format. That permission ends when the content is removed, except for copies already shared or kept in backups for a limited time. You confirm you have the right to share what you add.

Fair use

Please don't:

• send spam, false listings or fake reviews, or pretend to be someone else;
• copy or scrape the directory in bulk, or reuse it to build another directory;
• collect other people's details from the directory to market to them without their permission;
• upload anything unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights;
• try to break, overload or get around the security of the site.

Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if it breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why. You can close your account at any time by contacting us.

Our content and other sites

The directory's design, text and organisation belong to us or the people who license them to us; photo credits are shown with the photos. Links to business websites and social pages are there to help you, but we don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them.

Our responsibility

We work hard to keep the directory accurate and available, but it's provided as it is, and we can't promise it will always be complete, correct or online. As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses caused by relying on a listing or review, by your dealings with a business, or by the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can't legally be limited, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Nova Scotia deal with any dispute. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections your local consumer law gives you and can bring a claim in your local courts where that law allows it. If something goes wrong, please contact us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly.

Changes and questions

We may update these terms as the directory grows and will change the date above when we do. If a change is significant, we'll also tell account holders by email. If you keep using the directory after a change, the new terms apply. How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy notice. Questions?
