Privacy notice
Last updated October 17, 2026
Who we are
Stultz Enterprise (“we”, “us”) is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and is responsible for the personal information described here. Our Privacy Officer is responsible for our compliance with this notice and privacy law; reach them at info@stultzenterprise.com, including for the requests below.
What’s public
- Business listings, once approved: the business name, description, categories, address, map pin, hours, contact details, social links, logo and photos, and the owner's parish if the owner chose to add it.
- Reviews: your first name and last initial (or “Directory member” if you haven't given a name), your star rating, what you wrote and the date.
- Owner replies that a business posts under a review.
- Notes on a listing that we haven't finished checking, such as “Unverified” or “Incomplete listing”.
- Jamaican ownership: every listing notes that an owner is of Jamaican birth or heritage, because that's what the directory is for. On listings our team added that the owner hasn't claimed, we don't name the owner or say where they were born, grew up or come from; the listing just says the business is Jamaican-owned.
- A listing's sources: links to the published pages showing it's Jamaican-owned and where the business is, and the date we last checked them. On listings the owner hasn't claimed, the Sources section shows only the publication and the date, not a summary of what it says. Once the owner claims or sends the listing, it can show a short summary of what the sources say.
What stays private
- Your account: your title, name, email, account type and when you accepted our terms. Passwords are handled by our database provider, Supabase; we never see them.
- About you on the listing form (your name, email and phone): only our review team sees them, to contact you about the listing.
- The owner survey (connection to Jamaica, age range, gender) is optional and never shown on a listing. We only look at it in summary, to understand the community.
- Listing claims (your name, your role at the business, phone and message): only our review team sees them, to confirm you can manage the listing.
- Review reports: when you report a review, only our team sees who reported it and why.
- Business suggestions: when you suggest a business, only our team sees what you tell us and your email, which is optional.
- Your favourites (the businesses you heart, and whether you want to go or have been) are visible only to you. Our team can't see them either.
- Our own records: if we suspend an account we note the reason, and we keep a log of actions our team takes, such as editing a listing or changing someone's access.
Listings we research
To help the directory grow, our team adds some listings itself, including businesses the community suggests, using information a business publishes about itself (its website or social pages) or that appears in news articles. We record where we found it, show those sources on the listing, and only use business details, not private ones. If one of these listings is about your business, you can claim it, or email listings@stultzenterprise.com to ask us to correct or remove it.
Why we use your information
- To run your account and show the listings, reviews and favourites you add.
- To check listings and claims before they go live, and contact you about them.
- To keep the directory honest and safe, for example by dealing with spam, fake reviews and misuse.
- To understand the community in summary, from the optional owner survey.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects. If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom: we rely on our agreement with you to run your account, on our legitimate interest in running a trustworthy directory for researched listings and safety, and on your consent for the owner survey and your location.
Your location
When you choose Near me, your browser asks your permission first. Your approximate location (rounded to about 100 metres) stays in that browser tab and is used to sort businesses by distance. It isn't saved in your account or put in web addresses.
Services that help us
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in, sign-in emails and photos.
- Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host, it sees your internet address and keeps short-lived logs to run and protect the site.
- Esri provides the satellite imagery on our maps, and OpenStreetMap the street map. Map pictures load from their servers, which see your internet address. When you use “Find the address” on the listing form, the address you typed is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find it on the map.
- Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons host the category photos on our home page.
- Until a business uploads its own photos, its listing may show the logo or picture it publishes on its own website or listing page. Those images load from that site; we don't tell it which page you were on.
- Google reCAPTCHA protects the registration page from bots. It's subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- When you paste a Google Maps link, we read the location from it; short links from maps.app.goo.gl are opened on our server only to find where they point.
These providers only handle your information to provide their service to us. Some of them store or process it outside Canada, including in the United States, where local law may let authorities access it.
How long we keep it
- Your account information, for as long as your account is open.
- The contact details and survey answers sent with a listing, for as long as the listing exists.
- Business suggestions, while we review them, and afterward only so we don't check the same business twice.
- When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it, with your favourites, claims and reports, within 30 days. Reviews stay up under your first name and last initial unless you delete them first or ask us to remove them too.
- We may keep a limited record for longer where we need it to resolve a dispute, prevent misuse or meet a legal obligation.
Cookies and storage
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. Your light or dark mode choice is kept in your browser, and a few things are kept in the browser tab until you close it, such as your Near me location. Google reCAPTCHA may set its own cookies on the registration page. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Keeping it safe
The site only works over encrypted connections, only our small review team can see private details, and passwords are never stored where we can read them. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach puts your information at real risk, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Age
You must be 16 or older to create an account, send a listing or write a review. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you think we have, please tell us and we'll delete it.
Your rights and choices
You can update your details on your account page at any time. Wherever you live, you can also ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your account, listing or reviews;
- stop using information you gave with your consent, such as your survey answers.
Contact us at info@stultzenterprise.com (or, for anything about a listing, listings@stultzenterprise.com) and we'll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm it's you first. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights and a regulator you can complain to:
- Canada: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or your provincial commissioner (in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information).
- European Union and United Kingdom: you can also object to or restrict our use of your information and ask to move it, and complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
- United States: some states, such as California, give you rights to know, correct and delete your information. We don't sell it or share it for targeted advertising.
- Jamaica: the Data Protection Act, 2020 gives you similar rights, overseen by the Information Commissioner.
Changes
We'll update this notice as the directory changes and change the date above when we do. If a change is significant, we'll also tell account holders by email. The rules for using the directory are in our Terms & Conditions.
